We wanted to find out more about Harvest Rain's upcoming production of URINETOWN which opens on November 11, so we asked the cast about this hilarious musical satire and whether they think it's a privilege to pee...

| Hannah King - HOPE CLADWELL | |
Hope is the kind hearted heroine of the show. She is loving, naive and seemingly oblivious to all evil. She doesn't always think her actions through carefully but some would say she just prefers to follow her heart.
The funniest thing about URINETOWN is the fact that it I spend nearly a whole second act with a gag on (ouch!) being wheeled around on a chair! I am loving being involved in such a hilariously silly show with a great bunch of people.
People should come to see URINETOWN because we all need to have a good laugh, escape from the hassle of daily life and get lost in the mysterious world of URINETOWN.
|
| Shaun Kohlman - BOBBY STRONG | |
I am playing the role of Bobby Strong, the hero of the story. He's a headstrong individual who dares to push the boundaries and lead a revolution of the people. One can learn a lot from listening to their heart!
I believe the funniest thing about URINETOWN is the precise blend between the beautiful music and the absurd lyrics of each of the songs! Then combine this with Tim O’Connor’s direction and you’ve got one truly ridiculous show!
People should come and see URINETOWN not only to support the internship program or Harvest Rain, but to support the Brisbane theatre industry as a whole. Brisbane-produced theatre is really growing at the moment and we must support it.

| Vicki Millar - PENELOPE PENNYWISE | |
I play Penelope Pennywise, employed by 'Urine Good Company' to run the dirtiest, filthiest toilet in town.
The funniest thing about URINETOWN is that it's about a place called Urinetown... where the poor are so oppressed that they have to scrape their pennies together to Pay To Pee. I love the energy of this show, the fabulous music, and the way it pokes fun at musicals as a genre.
URINETOWN is a hilarious, high-energy show performed by a vibrant cast, with an abundance of toilet puns and a song about rabbits. Come join the fun!
|
| Verrity Hardy - LITTLE SALLY | |
I'm playing ten-year-old Little Sally, who is one of the narrators of Urinetown. Although she's a little annoying, Little Sally is not afraid to speak her mind. She is a loveable character who cares a great deal about love, hopes and dreams.
My favourite thing about being a part of URINETOWN is being able to work with such a fantastic group of young performers. There is definitely no one else I would want to share this hilarious adventure with.
URINETOWN is a brilliantly written show and definitely not something that should be missed! It's also your last opportunity to see the 2009 interns perform as a group.
|
| Kristen Barros - TINY TOM | |
I'm playing Tiny Tom. She's the youngest of the group and often finds everything either exciting or scary. Tiny looks to Bobby Strong, the leader of the poor, for guidance and loves going along with the crowd.
I think a lot of the humour comes from the exaggeration and variety of stereotypical characters and the mimicking of other shows.
When would you get another opportunity to see a satire on public amenities that still relates to the world we're living in today, performed by young, up and coming Brisbane artists who strive to give audiences a show with a difference?!
|
| Alexandra Valentine - LITTLE BECKY TWO SHOES | |
Basically Little Becky is a pregnant teenager. I don't think she cares that she's pregnant which is obvious because she smokes throughout the whole show. She still thinks she's extremely desirable...
The way the whole show has been put together is just so clever! The musical allows the cast to not take themselves so seriously and to just let go and experiment with their character. It's great not only to work and perfect my own character but to also watch everyone else's.
If you want to have a good laugh, hear some great songs and watch some talented performers, then you must come and see URINETOWN!
|
| Carmen Glanville - BATTY BEATRICE | |
I am playing Batty Beatrice which is a character I have pretty well invented from scratch. As one of the Poor, she is an escaped mental patient who only speaks/sings through her sock puppet friend.
The funniest thing about URINETOWN is the complete satire of the musical theatre genre. Ripping off such famous shows as Les Miserable, West Side Story and Sweeney Todd is a lot of fun!
Not only is URINETOWN a great night out, but it's also an opportunity to come and support the next generation of theatre stars... who knows, you may be witnessing the next Hugh Jackman or Cate Blanchett!
|
| David Laverty - ROBBY THE STOCKFISH | |
I am playing Robby the Stockfish, He is Hot Blades Harry's main man and they both run the streets together. Robby is also the father of Little Becky's baby.
The funniest thing about URINETOWN would most likely be the hilarious comic direction Tim O'Connor has given us. That, and the name of the show...
If you want to sit down, relax, and laugh for two hours, then URINETOWN is definately the show for you!
|
| Maureen Bowra - SENATOR FIPP | |
I am playing Senator Fipp who is paid lots of secret cash from Urine Good Company to allow their laws to be passed through the government. Fipp was going to take his 'dirty money' and go to Rio but discovers that being evil isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Escaping into the weird realm of URINETOWN is such a joy. It's a town where evil is revered, the hero fights for justice and a whole neighbourhood spontaneously bursts into songs with perfect harmony.
This is the last show for the 2009 Interns, come and see why all of our shows this year have been smash hits! Your support for this show is support for Brisbane's number one theatre education facility.
