DANCE DESIGN 3rd March 2010, Mina Parade Warehouse |
A LIVE DANCE PRODUCTION WHERE YOU CONTROL WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!
From the choreographer of Harvest Rain’s sold out seasons of JOSEPH & THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOUR DREAMCOAT, comes a quirky new live dance production.
“I am hesitant to call it a dance show because it’s more a comical exploration of theatre with dance as the medium”, says choreographer Callum Mansfield, “There is such a negative stigma associated with dance performances which is why we’re so excited to present something that is so heavily focussed on being entertaining – and not just dance for dance’ sake.”
If providing 75 minutes of zany dance theatrics wasn’t challenging enough, there is another twist to this concept of DANCE DESIGN. Mansfield says, “We wanted the audience to be as involved as possible, so we had the idea of handing over the control of what happens next.” Unwilling to indulge us in his secrets, Mansfield is keeping very secretive about way in which the audience will control the 15 dancers in the show. “Let’s just say it involves a suitcase and monkeys dipped in chocolate sauce...Ok, so I lied about the monkeys.”
Although DANCE DESIGN was produced last year to sold out audiences, apparently it was a only a draft for the upcoming season. With an eclectic mix of musical theatre, jazz, ballet, contemporary, hip hop and cabaret – it’s sure to be an interesting night for the whole family.
